Have to with the current roster and adjust to the competition lineup. Don't think Tillman and Queta will be around by the deadline. Brad needs to try and acquire a Kessler, Gafford, Duop Reath, Day Ron Sharp, Thomas Bryant, Noah Clowney, Danny Wolf? Just not sure on Queta or Tillmans trade value
I think a lot will depend on the style Mazzulla wants to play longer-term, too. I like some of those names you mentioned, but if he's planning on reverting to a five-out offense like in years past, he might prefer a floor-spacing 5. Either way, I agree that not all of these bigs will stick, either by the trade deadline or next summer. Team is far from the finished product
Agree, but think Garza and Boucher can do that, although each have their weaknesses, as can Reath, Bryant and Wolf, and all are down on the roster. I doubt Cleveland would trade Bryant to us. Like Reath as I think he is an upgrade and they have Clingon and Yang they are building around and Brad has a bit of trade experience there? Gafford would cost us Hauser and a few of Queta, Tillman, Walsh
Realistically Mazulla could never replace what Al and KP provided on offense. That's why I've been carefully watching how the new bigs perform in the roll, because Kornet's production and success could be replicated. I know Slimm Duck has been playing 5 but I think the competition is between Q, X, and Garza. Joe is giving X first dibs but X is too tentative on O which kills Cs approach. I think Garza will win the minutes eventually and secure the spot around game 15-20.
Yeah, Al and KP were huge losses, and I agree, they can’t be replicated by this group. Luke was fantastic as a non-shooting 5— screening, rolling, short-roll creation, rim protection, etc etc
Garza feels like the best of the bunch in filling that role, but is a more natural shooter too. I agree that he could wind up winning the starting role.
I do wonder whether the committee approach sticks, though. At least until the ASB…
