Another fine fine article. I am not as overwhelmed by the $71 million number or his age as others might be. That figure is relative to the total cap, which will have risen significantly by the time the extension kicks in. While 33 or 34 is the end of a prime, sports medicine keeps improving and making a difference for these athletes, allowing them to stay elite longer. Locking him up for the next five years would be the last of the max contracts spent on him, and I think it’s a smart move.
The other point you made in the article is important about drama: Jaylen Brown is a new adult in his late 20s. I like that he stays focused and doesn't back down. If he is venting in private, that is fine with me. We all do it when we get frustrated. It makes me wonder if Tracy McGrady talked out of school for the sake of a hot take and exposed a private moment that wasn't meant for the public.
I also think we put too much time into parsing the meaning of every sentence from athletes in their 20s and 30s. By parsing, I mean how we break down and over-analyze their words as if we're looking for a hidden message. These are young adults who are just developing an understanding of themselves and the world. Brown is doing well for his age. I'm proud of him.
