My question for you Adam is about the difference between Vuka and Luka. I see Luka on the way up and Vuke towards the end of the career. At what point is Luka's value better than Vuka's value? Part of this is $/minute, the other part is the cost of development time for Luka.

Am I seeing this clearly? Will Vuka be ready for the post season where now we have Luka who can shoot?

Hey Barry!

I've had the same questions!

I'm leaning toward Vuc being the most effective big man heading into the postseason, primarily due to experience and the passing he can provide (both on the elbows and out of the post). There's considerable crossover from both bigs in terms of rebounding -- although Vooch is a better defensive rebounder, Luka is a better offensive rebounder.

My stance is that Luka is the long-term play here, with Vooch being solid until the end of the season. Of course, if Boston re-signs him, I think that changes the calculus on Luka's tenure with the team.

I'm hedging here, mainly because I don't think there's a right or wrong answer in the short term. What I will say, is that if Vooch finds himself losing minutes to Luka during the postseason, for whatever reason, the writing will be on the wall for him.

Somewhat of a shameless plug addition, I discussed this on a recent YouTube post: https://youtu.be/_conH5HecDQ?si=bFb8zPm7ROPAtS-S

Thanks Adam! That was a great interview. In addition to the things we usually talk about, I have been fixated on the Celtics playing double big.

What were you thinking when he talked about the double big?

I like the way that Frank talked about it taking a while to develop for next year. With Tatum back in the line-up the team is much bigger than it was before. Going double big along with Tatum and Brown as dual wings would be a big strong team, with the ability to plug in everyone from Payton to Hugo. We could comfortably play 10-12 people every night and exhaust every competitor.

We saw that the other night what happens when you swap in Jordan for Hauser to cover Ball. Jordan absolutely wore him down. The unspoken strength of this team is about relentlessness. Frank got to that point. That is what Joe is all about and the front office found him the right players to fit it.

The Celtics can break the mold of having 8 rotation players with more rotations where more players can do sprints instead of long distance. Basketball is a sprinters game. True?

Can definitely see Luka's hard work and determination pay off for our team, and it's been great to see the trust the coaching staff have been giving him. Adam, that's awesome that you got to talk with Frank! Wonderful perspective on understanding the realities of their situation and committing to the very specific things that teams like ours would need. Great article =)

Thanks, Tim!

It was great to speak with Frank and get his perspective. We've been so lucky this season - with all the unproven guys working out and making an impact.

Hopefully, Luka continues to get opportunities next season, and maybe even during the postseason

Hah this article already aged nicely. Luka was fantastic against the Magic, esp that last 3 and rebound.
