According to a report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Boston Celtics have signed Devin Carter to their final two-way spot. He now joins Amari Williams and rookie Dillon Mitchell.
Milos Uzan, Tucker DeVries, and the rest of Boston’s Exhibit 10 players now have the option to join the Maine Celtics, where they can earn their E10 bonus.
For Carter, this is his first step back to an NBA roster. For the Celtics, it’s a chance to develop a player who was a lottery pick two summers ago, with the goal of converting him to a full-scale NBA contract once the money makes sense later in the year.
We only saw Carter once during the preseason, during Boston’s opening game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Clearly, he did enough in that outing and in training to prove himself to Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla, and the rest of the coaching staff.
After the news of Carter’s signing, I jumped on a podcast with my co-hosts, Tim Sheils and Mike Weber, for a rare three-man recording. We discussed the financial reasons Carter made the most sense on a two-way deal, his upside, the challenges he will likely face, and whether he can become the next success story from Boston’s player development pipeline.
