When the Celtics fell to a 0-3 start on the season, talk of a potential tanking season began to gather steam. The Celtics own their draft pick heading into next summer, the 2026 draft class is deep, and the dream of adding an elite-level lottery pick was an easy sell for some sections of the fanbase.
However, back-to-back wins against the New Orleans Pelicans and Cleveland Cavaliers have likely given everyone some food for thought as far as tanking is concerned. We know this year’s team isn’t going to be bringing home a chip, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be sub-500, either. Sure, it’s possible that Joe Mazzulla’s squad endures a losing season; however, at present, it feels like things could go either way.
With that being said, I was joined by Gary Webster — an 18-year season-ticket holder and former podcaster for “Section5ive” — to discuss Wednesday’s win over the Cavaliers, and more importantly, the pros and cons of potentially pulling the rug on the season.
I first (virtually) met Gary during the early years of my podcasting and writing journey. We did a few podcasts together back in the day. And now, with him being a free agent, he’s graciously agreed to join the co-hosting rotation for the Celtics Chronicle on a once-per-week basis. He will bring a fresh perspective to the show, especially as he will be in the building for most, if not all, of the big moments and games.
The audio/video side of things is now taking shape. Each week (now the clock change is set to happen on Sunday, and the time difference gets back to normal), there should be:
1 episode with Wayne Breezie — he does a lot of video work, including some Celtics-related livestreams for Bleacher Report
1 episode with Gary
1-2 episodes with Billy Calabrese — a die-hard fan with a strong grasp on stats and salary cap
2-4 solo episodes or interviews, with me running point.
We’re in the early days of the audio/video offering, so that rotation is subject to change. Some guys may choose to explore options elsewhere, and other new faces could join the crew. But, the hope is that over the next year or so, the Celtics Chronicle is cemented in its offering of diverse content — both in newsletter and audio/video format.
